A sneak peek at our mango! 19 weeks!

Today we had our anatomy scan at Cedars! We were there a  bit longer than expected (2 hours!) but all in all, it went great and that’s what matters. For those of you who don’t know, the anatomy scan is basically an ultrasound visit. The sonographer captures dozens of images and measurements including (but not limited to) baby’s brain, heart, arms, legs and stomach. Oh, and if you want, they confirm baby’s gender (in our case, definitely still a boy!). Once we were done, they printed some pictures for us to take with us and the Doctor came in to discuss the measurements. She said our baby looks fabulous! (That’s a direct quote!) He’s about 12 ounces now and everything looks totally normal. Whew!

We’ve been staring at this picture all day…is it September yet?

3D Ultrasound at 19 weeks 6 days

Aside from today’s excitement, we’ve been busy settling into our new place. We bought a dresser from Ikea last weekend and then proceeded to spend an embarrassing amount of time putting that thing together! We’ve also been exploring the neighborhood  by taking long walks in the evenings that occasionally include a stop at Yogurtland.

Some low points this past week include my second bloody nose (I really hate those) and INSANE leg cramps in the middle of the night. I’m not sure what to do about the nosebleeds but I’m drinking even MORE water, eating some bananas (for potassium!) and stretching before bed in order to avoid future painful wake up calls from my calves. Wish me luck!

Highlight for Baby this week: Our little mango is starting to growing hair!!!

And of course, my 19 week update:

Total weight gain so far: Scale says 8 lbs. Feels like 18!

Cravings: Yogurt. Greek, Yoplait or frozen. I’ll take them all!

What I miss: Runny eggs. I loooove burgers with a fried egg on top or poached eggs atop Eggs Benedict or Pasta Carbonara BUT I haven’t indulged since finding out I’m preggo due to possible risk of salmonella. 😦

What I’m excited about: Next week is the official halfway point! Yaaay! Hope to feel some baby kicks soon. Still waiting patiently!

New this week: Previously mentioned leg cramps and some sensitivity in my gums when I brush my teeth.

Note to Baby: You are such a cutie! Daddy says you look just like him 😉

The great stroller debate. 18 weeks

Wow! 18 weeks! Can you believe we’re nearly halfway through this pregnancy? And there’s still so much to do… and sooooo many decisions to make! This week has got me thinking about the long list of things we’ll need before our little sweet potato arrives. In an effort to save my sanity (contrary to popular belief, I do have a little left), I’ve decided to research and compare a few products at a time. First up — strollers and car seats. Right now travel systems seem to make sense. Here’s a peek at several we’re considering:

1. BOB Motion Travel System2.Summer Infant Fuze Travel System3.Britax B-Agile Travel System4.Chicco Cortina Travel System 5.Graco Aire3 Click Connect Travel System

Some non-baby highlights this week include seeing The Book of Mormon and furniture shopping. I’m really excited about the furniture even though it won’t be delivered for another two weeks. This thing called patience? I’m working on it!!! I’ll be sure to share pictures once everything is in!

Ok, back to the baby stuff! I’ll admit, I’m a little bummed that I haven’t felt any real movement yet. Hopefully soon. In the meantime, it’s good to know that his nervous system is under some major construction this week as is his hearing. Speaking of hearing, I’m trying to talk to him more throughout the day. Sometimes I ask him if he feels having Wienerschnitzel  spaghetti for dinner tonight and occasionally I tell him “Wow! That man driving in front of us must have fallen asleep! Why else would he be driving so.dang.slooooow?!” So you see, this kid and I are having some very interesting talks.

And now, my 18 week update:

Total weight gain so far: Earlier this week I thought I was up 9 lbs. But I soon realized that was just a side effect from the Roscoe’s chicken and waffles I’d eaten the night before. So I waited and when I weighed myself the next day I was only up 7lbs.

Cravings: I really wanted a bacon wrapped hotdog this week. FYI This craving has gone unsatisfied so far 😥 Also, I seem to be thirsty all the time. I am drinking (on average) 4-5 bottles of water during my workday.

What I miss: Boiling Crab. A side of rice, a pound of shrimp ( shebang medium of course). I hear you calling my name you sweet temptress you!

What I’m excited about: Anatomy screening next Wednesday. Can’t wait to see this little guy on the big screen again!

New this week: I slept for 11 hours on Tuesday night. 11 hours PLUS an hour nap when I got home. I think my iron might be low so spinach and steak is on the menu for tonight!

Note to Baby: I am hereby giving you permission to kick your Mama!

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes! 17 weeks!

This week we finished moving into our new place! Big thanks to our friends Vincent and Oscar for helping us out with the heavy lifting and also, special thanks to Asaf for taking the lead on this move. Even though my responsibilities were limited it was a really exhausting process! So glad that it’s over!

Klevster looking as exhausted as I felt on moving day

Moving is tough work!

In other news, I really needed to find Doctors (and a hospital) that would be closer to the new place. After some typical insurance red tape mumbo jumbo, I was finally referred to a new OBGYN who I am very much looking forward to meeting in another 3 weeks or so.

Also, we celebrated Passover Monday. There are many thoughts around the mixing of religions and nationalities that I won’t bother to go into. Mainly because I don’t care to discuss the opinions of people with small minds and big mouths. I mean, why ruin a perfectly good blog post with that nonsense? I will say this though, when I think about the culturally rich and diverse world my child is coming into, I can’t help but smile. Passover, Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, Christmas…this kid is going to think life is one big celebration! And really, shouldn’t it be?

Baby’s milestones this week include cartilage to bone skeletal changes and a stronger, thicker umbilical cord. He is now the size of an onion!

Here’s my 17 week update:

Total weight gain so far: Per my last post, I’m now going by the Doctor’s scale. I’ve gained one pound this week which brings by grand total to 6 lbs so far.

Cravings: I’m not sure if this was a craving but I had a delicious pizza on Thursday with my fake cousin, Gaby. I’m already thinking about what to order when I go back! If you haven’t tried Milo & Olive in Santa Monica, please do. But…maybe have a light snack beforehand as the wait can be a bit long.

What I miss: Sleeping through the whole night without having to get up to pee. Dear Bladder, FYI you’re interrupting some pretty fun dreams!

What I’m excited about: We’re starting to plan the nursery! I’ve got a bazillion ideas (thanks Pinterest) that I’ll be sharing soon. 🙂

New this week: First ever bloody nose. Really gross.

Note to Baby: We are getting close to settling on a name for you!

Moving (and an avocado) – 16 weeks!

It’s been a big, BIG week for The Urielis! As you know, we had an exciting ultrasound last Thursday (horrible, painful blood draw followed by an exciting ultrasound). Aside from the big gender reveal, we got to hear Baby Boy’s heartbeat again. Strong and steady at 160 bpm and Doctor says his measurements are right up to standard (11.8 cm = 4.15 inches). Once again he was VERY active during our ultrasound. I have a feeling that this little guy will definitely be keeping us on our toes!

Doing a little elbow to knee action!

Our avocado sized little one is doing more than the macarena in there too! His little heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day(!!!), and this amount will only continue to increase as he develops. 1396845564503 In non-baby related news, we got the keys to our new condo yesterday! We took the first set of boxes over last night and are moving in little by little throughout the week. Hoping to have everything done by Saturday. I’m officially a Valley Girl! Like, totally! 😉

Here’s my 16 week update:

Total weight gain so far: 5-7 lbs. Even though our bathroom scale still says 7, my Doctor said according to his records, I’ve only gained 5. Who am I to argue? 😉

Cravings: Sunday I was *seriously* jonesing for a corn dog. Can someone please tell me why Wienerschnitzel doesn’t deliver?

What I miss: NOT being sleepy. I sometimes nap after work and I’m in bed before 10 most nights. I can’t wait for this elusive 2nd trimester “energy boost” to kick in.

What I’m excited about: Blood work from First Trimester Screen came back normal. Moving into our new place! Passover dinner next week with friends. Furniture shopping! Getting back to the gym. (Asaf made me say that last one but I guess it’s still kinda true)

New this week: Stuffy/runny nose. Not sure if this is due to allergies or rhinitis of pregnancy. Annoying regardless of the source.

Note to Baby: Hope you like our new home! We’ll be working on your room soon!

It’s a Boy! (Plus, a talk with my son)

So folks, Daddy was right. We’re having a boy!

Our Facebook/Instagram announcement

Our Facebook/Instagram announcement

Straight talk: I freaked out a little. I come from a family of hilarious, crazy, strong willed, independent women and at first I was terrified at the idea of having a little boy. I felt lost and unprepared. Now what? What do boys like? Sure, he’s got a Dad to teach him about sports and peeing straight, what about me? I started to consider what our relationship would be like. So, Friday on my way to work, I had a little heart to heart (the first of many I’m sure) with my boy. And this is how it went:

I love you. I love you more than either of us can even begin to imagine. But I’m scared. This motherhood business is awfully daunting and the world of “boydom” feels so foreign. I promise to do my very best. I promise to dress you in colors other than blue. I will try not scream when you hand me your new “friend” who happens to be a snail, spider or frog. I know that you will probably want to make your Legos into guns which you will then use to shoot me. I will shoot you back instead of having hurt feelings. You will jump off of the furniture and you will get hurt. I will try to keep my yelling to a minimum when we have to take you to the emergency room. After all, you are your Father’s son! I will raise you to be gentle and respectful while embracing your need to run wild and play in the mud. We will laugh together and cry together. I will kiss your boo-boos. And since we’re on the topic of kissing, we will hug and kiss often because even though you’re a boy, you’re still my baby.

This is going to be a great adventure. I can’t wait.

We’re going going, back back, to Cali Cali (15 weeks)

Yes. I wrote that title.

After a really wonderful and relaxing trip, we’re back in California! (In case you were wondering, my first meal back was taquitos and they were delicious!) Israel was great! As mentioned in my last update, our main priority this time around was spending time with family and friends and most importantly, celebrating Asaf’s brother, Eyal’s marriage to his new wife Jenya! I am truly thankful to have married into such a unique and loving family and I’m excited to welcome another member into the mix!

Post updated to include family photo. (Photo credit to http://www.photographing-life.com) Surprisingly, I fit into my original dress choice! Yippee!

This week we have two doctor appointments! One for follow-up blood work and one for an elective “gender peek” 3D ultrasound. We went back and forth about whether or not we should wait until our 20 week anatomy scan to find out the gender, but in the end, our impatience won out. If all goes well, we’ll know if we’re expecting a baby girl or a baby boy (now the size of a navel orange) by Thursday afternoon!PhotoEditor_.1396404430258

Although I don’t have the reassurance of baby kicks yet (I MAY have felt “flutters” Sunday night  but I can’t say with certainty that it wasn’t just gas), I definitely look (and feel) pregnant now. In the past few weeks my bump has “popped” which has resulted in a lot of belly touching by friends, family and even strangers! I fear stretch marks so I am constantly rubbing cocoa butter and all sorts of other potions, lotions and oils on my rapidly expanding body. At this point, it would probably be easier to dip my entire body into a tub of Palmers.

Baby has started to practice breathing, sucking and swallowing this week. By now, the ears are positioned on the sides of the head (they used to be in the neck!) and the eyes are moving from the side of the head to the front of the face. I find myself dreaming about what this little face will look like!

Here’s my 15 week update:

Total weight gain so far: (((drumroll))) 7 lbs! Wow! When did that happen?!

Cravings: Cold fruit with lemon, salt and chili. Edamame.

What I miss: Spicy tuna sushi rolls. Smoked salmon and cream cheese on a toasted bagel. 10152747_10203671937986094_1864216738_n

What I’m excited about: Long, strong nails! Avocado and tempura sweet potato rolls which make missing REAL sushi a little less sad.

What I’m nervous about: Having blood drawn this week. I hope they don’t have to poke me too many times. 😦

Note to Baby: Please cooperate so we can see you Thursday! Now is not the time to be shy! Mommy wants to start shopping!
