Hospital Maternity Tour – Chhheck! 23 weeks

This week we attended the maternity tour for Providence Tarzana which is the hospital I’ll be delivering at (in only 3 1/2 months!!!). It was actually pretty informative and *score* we won a free pack of diapers!

Our very first pack of diapers!

The hospital is about 15 minutes from home, the parking is convenient and the nurses seem to be very nice. But the best thing we found out during the presentation was that after I deliver our baby, the doctors and nurses will leave him alone with us for what they call a baby/parent bonding “golden hour”. After which, they will come back in to weigh, examine and bathe him in my room! Right in front of us! They even said that if I needed to have a C-Section, we (the baby and I) would only be apart for about 20 minutes and during that time, Asaf could stay with the baby and that we’d meet up again in my postpartum room. Such good news!

And the good news keeps coming! This week our baby is the size of a grapefruit! (I know this picture looks a bit like an orange but I swear it’s a grapefruit!) Certain sounds are becoming familiar to him now. It’s amazing to think he might recognize our voices (maybe even a Maroon 5 song or two) before we even meet!IMG_20140527_221642

My 23 week update:

Total weight gain so far: No weight gain this week! Still holding strong at 13 lbs.

Cravings: This week I had a dream about French toast and when I woke up I just had to have some! Also, I ate 8 nectarines (not all at one time) this week. That’s practically a bushel!

What I’m excited about: Looking forward to sharing our first childbirth class experience with you next week!

What I’m nervous about: See above and be sure to visit next week.

New this week: I’m hot! I mean, really hot! Lately it seems that I just can’t drink enough ice water and sadly I’ve become that obnoxious lady who fans herself while asking whomever is around “Are you hot?” and then proclaiming the obvious “It’s so hot today!”. Also, I’ve been very clumsy this week. I’ve been bumping into things nonstop and on our way to breakfast last Saturday, I tripped over a curb and took a little tumble. Thankfully I caught myself before my tummy hit the pavement but still, it shook us all up a bit.

Note to Baby: Daddy finally felt your little kicks on Saturday! He was really looking forward to that. Keep up the good work little love of mine! ❤

22 weeks + 1 recipe for spaghetti squash

We’ve officially reached week 22 which I was totally nonchalant about until I saw this chart! According to this chart we’ve hit the 6 month mark…and look how CLOSE we are to third trimester! Yikes stripes! This pregnancy is zooming by!

trimester chart

This week was full of accomplishments! We’ve now registered for most of the basics and (drumroll please) we successfully put our crib together! Currently, I’m on the lookout for the other items we’ll need for Baby’s room. Since our nursery will double as a guest room, we’ve got to keep it simple. The only items we’ll be adding are an area rug, a dresser (which will also serve as a changing station) and some type of rocker. Oh! And I think we’ll need some shelving too.

Baby is about the size of a spaghetti squash* this week (which was a little frightening to be honest. Those are big!) and can now perceive light and dark. So far we’ve resisted the urge to chase him around with a flashlight but I can’t guarantee how long that will last!

*someone kindly asked that I include “my” recipe for Lasagna Spaghetti Squash in this week’s post. Please let me know how it turns out for you!

My 22 week update:

Total weight gain so far: Total weight revealed after we reluctantly replaced the battery in our scale. Scale says 13 pounds!

Cravings: If my stomach was thinking about heading south of the border neoneopearlsduring the early stages of pregnancy, it’s certainly taken a new course now. We’re heading East now. FAR EAST! This week I’ve craved mochi, pork buns and some lesser known Chinese snacks that some of you will probably think a little odd. After all, not many people I know would say “Mmmm I could really go for a cold can of neo neo pearls right about now!”

What I’m excited about: Asaf and I are celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary in just a few days! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year already! 😀

New this week: I’m particularly aware of my “waddle” lately. This isn’t really new but I think it may be getting worse. I feel like a penguin!

Note to Baby: Daddy and I checked out the Endeavour this week at the California Science Center. We were thinking about you the whole time and promising that we’d come back once you’re out. We’ve got so many plans for you already!

My Unofficial Mama’s Day. Week 21

IF you’re following me on Instagram you know that our living room furniture was delivered Sunday! Yay! I told everyone that was my “Mother’s Day gift” but I should also mention that Asaf surprised me (which is really hard to do) with the nicest card. Seriously though, it’s pretty impossible not to like a card that’s addressed to “My beautiful wife and future greatest mother on the planet”. Oh! And the card was accompanied by a photo album for all of our sonogram pictures. It was a great gift actually because before receiving the album I was just sticking them in a giant manila envelope. (For shame!)

But… the BEST Mother’s Day gift I received was BABY KICKS! Yup! I’ve finally gotten them! They aren’t super strong but they’re fairly frequent and totally undeniable. I just love feeling his little movements 🙂 He’s growing eyebrows this week and is now about the length of a carrot! Crazy!

Before I go any further, I’d just like to let you all know that as I write this, it’s almost 100 degrees outside! Now, I hate to be a complainer but someone needs to tell the sun to simmer DOWN! It’s only May! Thank goodness for the condo’s much appreciated  central A/C and pool!

Funny story about my first trip to the complex’s pool. Shortly after jumping in (which Asaf later scolded me for) I decided to Instagram a spontaneously choreographed picture of myself. Unfortunately, the result caused me to (literally) laugh out loud. My belly is so BIG I look naked! I swear I’m wearing bikini bottoms. It’s a family pool for goodness sake!20140513_164329

And now that you’ve seen me naked, here’s my 21 week update:

Total weight gain so far: Guess what? The battery went out on our scale! So current weight is TBA! Oh darn.

Cravings: As mentioned it.is.so.hot! So all I want to eat is popsicles. But today I had a grilled (cheddar)cheese with bacon and green apple and I’m already wondering if it’s OK if I eat that again tomorrow.

What I miss: Bathing suits that fit. Wait. Did I ever have that? Nevermind. Next question please!

What I’m excited about: We got a bassinet this week (for those early days)! I keep staring at it and wondering what it will be like with a baby inside.

New this week: I already mentioned the baby kicks and sadly I have nothing new to gross you out about this week. Sorry.

Note to Baby: Thanks for the kicks carrot kid! You’ve got great timing! I like you already 😉

::singing:: Whooah, we’re half way there… (20 weeks)

Everybody now! Livin’ on a prayer “…

So anyway, this week we celebrated the official pregnancy halfway point! I feel incredibly fortunate that so far everything has been rather easy and I’m hoping that my luck will continue for the second half of preggohood. Fingers (toes, and eyeballs) crossed! 🙂

I met with my new OB this week, Dr. Russo. Overall I’m relieved/feeling good about the fact that she would be delivering our baby. She is very personable and expressed that she would support any birth plan that I felt comfortable with (epidural vs. non-medicated). As a bonus, her office happens to be right next to the hospital we’ll be delivering at so after my appointment, I took the opportunity to sign us up for their Maternity Tour later this month. Everyone I know who has delivered at this hospital has had a pretty positive experience which I find comforting.

Also, I attended my first prenatal yoga class! It was a little harder than I originally expected (my downward dog definitely needs some work!) but I felt amazing afterwards!

Baby is about the length of a banana this week and guess what?! He’s got working taste buds now! Hmmm, I wonder what his favorite food will be? 1399614434073 Time for the 20 week rundown:

Total weight gain so far: Houston, we’ve hit double digits. I’m up 10 pounds this week!

Cravings: I still want fruit all the time but my Doctor has asked me to keep it to three servings a day (unlimited vegetables) until we do my glucose screening next month.

What I miss: Excedrin. That probably sounded bad. See, I get crazy migraines from time to time (even pre-pregnancy) and a couple of Excedrins always did the trick. Now that I’m preggo, Excedrin is a no no. Actually, I’m trying to avoid all painkillers unless absolutely necessary which means I’ve got to learn to work around the occasional headache. It’s a pain. Literally.

What I’m excited about: We’ve started to make nursery plans and we’ll be registering soon! Oh, and I won a baby gate at a Babies R’ Us raffle over the weekend.

New this week: Some swelling in my hands and feet over the weekend. Nothing major but definitely noticeable. Also, more crazy dreams!

Note to Baby: Thanks for hanging in there with us! Just 4 more months (or so) to go!
